The upcoming Netflix series adapts classic Dolly tunes including “Jolene” and “Two Doors Down.”
Rose DommuThe holiday season is about many things: gathering with your friends and family, eating so much that your jeans pop before you’ve even made it to dessert, and getting drunk and telling your uncle that you know he voted for Trump. And of course, the holidays are about Dolly Parton orthis year they are, at least. Honestly, every day should be about Dolly Parton. Right in time for Thanksgiving, Netflix will release Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings, an eight-part series that brings some of the country legend’s most famous songs to life. No, this isn’t a docuseries — you’ll have to listen to the incredible podcast Dolly Parton’s America for that — it’s essentially a collection of movies, each based around a different Dolly classic.
The series will cover “These Old Bones,” “If I Had Wings, “JJ Sneed,” “Cracker Jack,” “Sugar Hill,” “Down From Dover,” “Two Doors Down,” and of course, “Jolene.” The cast includes Ginnifer Goodwin, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Julianne Hough, Willa Ford, Delta Burke (!!), and Kathleen Turner (!!!) — with Dolly herself introducing each episode and making appearances throughout.
From what we can tell from a two-minute trailer released Tuesday, it looks like one of the episodes might include a queer romance. Dolly Parton just said “gay rights.”
You can watch the trailer below, but stay tuned for more Dolly content, because Out traveled to Dollywood in Tennessee last week for the red carpet premiere of Heartstrings and spoke with Parton herself — the gag, right? Watch this space, y’all!
Dolly Parton’s Heartstrings drops on Netflix November 22.
