Marvel’s Runaways is about to come to an explosive close, as the upcoming season three of the show will also be its last. The announcement came in the just released, extremely exciting, trailer for the upcoming season.

Runaways, based on the hit Brian K. Vaughan comic, follows a group of teens who find out their parents are all supervillains and decide to run away from home before trying to stop their parents’ evil plans. One of the updates the show made from the comic was changing teen superhero Karolina Dean’s unrequited crush on team member Nico Dinoru to a mutual one, giving way to a relationship between the pair.

That relationship has since made its way to the Runaways comics, written by Rainbow Rowell and drawn by Kris Anka. The two made Nico and Karolina a couple thirteen years after Karolina first flirted with her friend.

Season three of the show will be packed with action and drama, as the titular Runaways search for their captured friends Gert, Chase, and Karolina; deal with unstoppable aliens targeting one of their moms; fight legendary witch Morgan le Fey (Elizabeth Hurley) attempts to use Nico’s  magic for her own dark purposes; and even meet fellow teen superheroes Cloak and Dagger.

Runaways was a very queer comic, but the show took that queerness to another level. When Karolina and Nico shared a kiss in the ninth episode of season one, fans finally got the queer superhero representation we had wanted for so long — the scene actually made Marvel history. These weren’t just anonymous men in support groups, murderous lawyers, or characters who would be gone forever after six episodes. They were two of the leads on a popular show set in the Marvel universe.

According to TVline, Hulu says that this season represents a natural creative end point for the series, and that the show will “leave no stone unturned” during its final season. We can’t wait to watch!
