Judges were wowed Tuesday by Guillaume and Arthur, two dancers who performed a touching and powerful dance routine on La France a un incroyable talent, France’s version of America’s Got Talent. The dance itself was beautiful and moving, but the routine’s anti-homophobia message brought an entirely new dimension to the dance and brought the audience and judges alike to their feet.

As the queer news site LGBTQ+ Nation was first to report, the two dancers walked onto the stage and one of the judges asked if they had something they wanted to say about their performance. “We’re going to present a number against homophobia,” Arthur replied, drawing applause from the room.

As a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” played, Guillaume and Arthur lifted each other, balanced on each other’s bodies, spun, and leapt gracefully across the stage. The dance ended with the two sharing a kiss on the lips, earning a standing ovation from the rapt audience and the judges.

The dance combined elements of ballet, modern dance, and acrobatics, with performers combining the various disciplines to create an intimate and beautifully fluid routine. For much of the dance, the two men were wrapped around or draped over each other’s bodies, making it clear that the connection between the two is both a romantic and sexual one.

The dancers started to tear up when they saw the reaction from the crowd.

Judge Hélène Ségara said the dance was “so beautiful and it was so tender at the same time,” and fellow panelist Marianne James agreed. “Two boys kissing on the lips is not something we often see on television,” she added, “and that touched me deeply.”

Naturally, the pair earned four “yes” votes from the judges and were unanimously sent on to the next round. We’re all rooting for you Guillaume and Arthur!

The next episode airs November 26 at 9:05 pm on M6 in France.
