And not just because Lisa Kudrow is in it.
Mikelle StreetNetflix has a history of pumping out some extra queer original content. Like, have you seen Elite or Sex Education? This year, they are set to lean into that reputation, already having released AJ and the Queen as well as Cheer, with a ton of other LGBTQ+ content on the way. One of those projects: Feel Good.
Written, created and starring Mae Martin, Feel Good stars Martin as Mae, a comedian and recovering addict “whose addictive behaviors and intense romanticism dominate every single part of her life.” So like a comedy but make it dark, got it.
Along her way, Mae comes across George, played by Charlotte Ritchie, and the two fall in love. “They embark on an intoxicating romance as Mae juggles relationships with her parents, fellow addicts in a drugs support group, her colleagues at the local stand up club, and most importantly tries to transform her relationship with George from an addictive one to a healthy one,” a release reads. Casual.
The project also features Lisa Kudro as Mae’s mother Linda, Adrian Lukis as Mae’s father Malcolm, and Sophie Thompson as Maggie.
“I’m beyond excited for people to finally see my semi-autobiographical show Feel Good,” Martin said in a release. “I really hope that people laugh, connect with the characters, and root for Mae and George as a couple. We tried to make a show that’s funny, heartbreaking, and occasionally completely bizarre, because that’s what life is like.”
Composed of six 30 minute episodes, Feel Good will debut on Netflix March 19.
