Where would we be without Cher?

Besides a question I ask myself every morning when I wake up, it's also something of a mantra for Tina Fey and Maya Rudolph.

On last night's Maya and Marty, the two comedic gems paid tribute to the Carol Burnetts, the Chers, and the Vicki Lawrences—thank you, Vicki Lawrence—that came before them with a musical medley featuring some classic variety show staples: skinny mics, breast-high stools, playful banter, and chops. Let's not forget the chops.

Displaying brilliant comedic timing and the ability to carry and hold a note, Tina and Maya reminded us why variety shows were so much fun in the first place. I wouldn't have minded a Bob Mackie tearaway, but we can't always get what we want.
