"Showbusiness is a funny business."
RuPaul's Drag RaceFollowing the airing of RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race's first episode, there has been quite a bit of discussion online about the queens who appeared on the show. Though Bob the Drag Queen, Trixie Mattel, and Monet X Change were the ones that fans show in the hour and a half long special, it was others that did at least some of the makeup that appeared on the show as revealed in a series of social media posts this weekend.
"Showbusiness is a funny business," Shannel, a Drag Race season 1 alum who helped on set posted to Instagram. "I started my career as a makeup artist and a performer and have been blessed to have a wild ride so far. For whatever reason, my appearance on Celebrity Drag Race was cut. And although, I am unsure as to why I was fortunate enough to work amongst amazing talented people and my Drag Race sisters as a makeup artist on the full season of Celebrity Drag Race. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed being apart of it." In the comment section, Delta Work pointed out that Shannel had also worked alongside Mathu Andersen on the ill-fated Drag U.
Well, now Drag Race is releasing the footage.
Though the show has not released an official statement, a new "Bonus Clip" shows Shannel giving tips to the three contestants. And while none of the footage shows her helping to put their makeup on, a caption does say that she helped "to transform them into total glamazons." The presence of cameramen and staff in the mirror of the shots could be part of the reason that the footage never made the final cut.
Laila McQueen and Mayhem Miller were credited, like Shannel, as creative consultants on the episode. Similar footage has not yet surfaced of them in the episode.
