The mega-showrunner teased AHS season 10 yesterday, now he's back with 'American Horror Stories.'
FXryan murphyMikelle StreetRyan Murphy is always an incredibly busy man. It feels like this year we've heard of about a dozen projects from him, with Hollywood, The Prom, Boys in the Band, A Secret Love, season two of The Politician, Ratched, and Circus of Books all premiering. But he's not done yet. The mega-showrunner has a slate of outstanding projects like a series on fashion designer Halston, another on Andy Warhol, another based on A Chorus Line, a series centering the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer created in collaboration with Janet Mock, and the next season of American Horror Story. Just yesterday Murphy teased season 10 of AHS with a poster, and now he's already back, teasing an AHS spin-off.
Announced earlier this year, American Horror Stories builds on the world of AHS. Though AHS is an FX original, Stories is a FX on Hulu exclusive. Details have been mostly mum but with a poster for the series — which features a woman's faced cracked open to reveal a spider in its own web — we have a few details.
“It’s the AHS spin off," Murphy wrote to Twitter of the series. "We are doing 16 one hour stand alone episodes delving into horror myths, legends and lore…many of these episodes will feature AHS stars you know and love. More to follow…”
Murphy has built a reputation for reusing his same collaborators for many projects, so that part comes as no surprise. The series was announced back in May and since, Sarah Paulson revealed that she would be directing an episode. There is no word on whether she will also star in the series.
Matt Bomer, a frequent collaborator in the Murphy universe who appeared most recently in Boys In the Band, has also publicly expressed an interest in directing.
It is interesting to see all of this happen, not only because it's yet another show on Murphy's already busy slate, but because Murphy is now a major, big-dollar Netflix name. To see Hulu now get an exclusive piece of the pie, essentially through an FX loophole, probably raised a few eyebrows. Still, when you're one of the hardest working, and best-paid producers in the business, these are the things we've come to expect.
