Actress and singer Demi Lovato is set to return to the small screen by starring in a new TV show from writer Suzanne Martin, and we are ready for the Demissance to officially begin.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project, titled Hunger, will be a single-camera comedy. Hunger follows a group of friends in a food issues support group as they bond with each other and search for “love, success, and that one thing in the refrigerator that will make it all better.”

Lovato has mostly focused on music the last several years, releasing the albums like Confident in 2015 and Tell Me You Love Me in 2017. Last year she released the protest song“Commander in Chief” about former Donald Trump. She was also one of the performers at Celebrating America, the prime time TV special that took place after Biden’s inauguration starring Tom Hanks and Justin Timberlake.

After first rising to fame starring in Camp Rock and Sonny With a Chance on the Disney Channel, Lovato has mainly focused on music. This would mark her first starring role in nearly a decade. She’s also made guest appearances on Glee, and most recently, Will & Grace, as well as doing voice acting roles in the animated films Smurfs: The Lost Village, and Charming. Last year she had a small role in the Rachel McAdams/Will Ferrell movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.

Lovato has been open about her eating disorders and struggles with mental health issues and addiction throughout her career. She’s often been lauded for her willingness to share what it’s like being bipolar, dealing with addiction, and having eating disorders.

The series has received a put pilot commitment from NBC, meaning the network will pay a penalty if they don’t air it.

We can’t wait to see Lovato return to her acting roots, especially in a project that focuses on issues she’s so passionate about. Hungry is currently in development, with no air date announced yet.
