Quality television that night.
Mikelle StreetYou want to talk about a legendary night?!
Though HBO Max's Legendary is getting ready for season two, some are still celebrating the high points in the competition show's first season. Just days after the series announced its upcoming cast, it's being "gagged" with news that they are nominated for two MTV Movie and TV Unscripted Awards.
"We're gagging, honey," the show's official Instagram posted. In the post they write that the show was nominated for Best Competition Series and Best Fight.
For Best Competition Series, the show is up against heavy hitters like RuPaul's Drag Race and The Challenge, in addition to others like The Circle and The Masked Singer For the Best Fight category, they are up against scenes from Selling Sunset, The Real Housewives of New Jersey, RuPaul's Drag Race: Untucked, and Keeping Up with the Kardashians. But let's revisit the legendary Legendary fight.
In episode three of the show's first season, Dominique Jackson, a ballroom icon and Hall of Famer, served as the guest judge for a Circus Bezirkus themed ball. It was clear pretty early on that Jackson came to give the girls quality television, giving frank one-liner responses, as well as calling for the DJ to keep pumping a beat she liked — he absolutely did.
The houses had to create circus-themed performances and the Gorgeous House of Gucci put their's on, even though they were down a member. In the critiques, the judges started off praising that performance with Leiomy Maldonado giviing the team kudos. As judge Law Roach began to compliment Gucci — which, to be clear, is not his usual line of response to a performance — Jackson cut in.
"They're not that stunning," she said.
"Hey," Jameela Jamil responded. "They are stunning!"
"You're not that stunning," Delicious Gucci responded to Jackson. You can only guess how things went from there. Jackson eventually stood up to say what she needed to say.
"I am ballroom!" she declared after a speech.
"She is an icon, without a doubt," Roach cut in. "What she's done for the community, without a doubt. But here, in this house, she's a guest."
Host Dashaun Wesley took control of the moment, getting Jackson to sit back down. It was undoubtedly the most viral moment of the season, and apparently, we didn't see it all.
"TV didn’t do this night justice !" DJ MikeQ wrote recently in a comment about the clip.
Release the MikeQ cut!!
While it was certainly memorable, whether they will be able to win the MTV award is to be determned. The Untucked fight that they are up against is the similarly iconic head-to-head between Kandy Muse and Tamisha Iman.
