TelevisionMey RudeHey Niecy, we see you!
Niecy Nash has picked up a new hosting gig. Fresh off her stint as a guest host on The Masked Singer, Nash will be hosting a reboot of the game show Don’t Forget the Lyrics! for Fox. The series is expected to launch during the 2021-2022 season.
Don’t Forget the Lyrics! is a musical memory based game where contestants choose songs from all different genres, decades and artists, and then have to sing them in front of everyone. At first, a studio band will be playing along and the lyrics appear on a screen, but they suddenly cut out and contestants have to show that they’re lyric masters by finishing the song on their own. If they can sing nine songs correctly, they have a chance to sing a number one hit and win the top prize.
The show was originally on Fox from 2007 to 2009, and was hosted by Wayne Brady. Later, it moved into syndication with Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray as the host. Don’t Forget the Lyrics! was created by Jeff Apploff, who also produces Fox’s Game of Talents and Beat Shazam.
“Whether it’s tapping a toe to keep rhythm, humming a melody or outright singing along, music is one thing that is universally appealing. Don’t Forget the Lyrics! wraps everything about why people love, enjoy and treasure music into one big, fun, high-energy and high-stakes show,” Rob Wade, President of Alternative Entertainment and Specials, Fox Entertainment said. “Niecy Nash is one of the most talented, beloved and spirited people in the business. She’s been a dear friend to Fox for many years, most recently on The Masked Singer, and we are so happy to keep her on our air next season with Don’t Forget the Lyrics!”
Nash added that she’s excited to get to be a part of the show. “I’m so excited to be part of the DFTL family,” she said. “I love music and I’m happy to be involved in a show that gives people an opportunity to win life-changing amounts of money.”
Nash, a comedian and actress known for her roles in shows like Reno 911!, Scream Queens, and Claws, married musician Jessica Betts last year and has been on top of the world since. Not only is she living her best married life, but she’s going to be starring in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Jeffrey Dahmer series opposite Evan Peters. She's also rumored to have a talk show in the works.
