Bass wants an LGBTQ+ version of the popular reality dating series as much as we do!
TelevisionTVEntertainmentDatingLance BassMey RudeLance Bass wants a gay version of The Bachelor almost as much as we do, and he wants to host it.
The former *NSYNC singer is ending his three-episode run as guest host of Bachelor in Paradise tonight, but Variety reports he’s not done with the show yet. Instead, he wants to take the show to places it's never been before.
“If you want the most dramatic season ever, do an LGBT version,” Bass told Variety. “I think maybe it’s the time for The Bachelor to do a gay Bachelor. I think that would be so much fun.”
But he’s not just the idea man — he wants to be involved. “And I definitely know a host if you need it,” he added. “I have not talked to anyone about that, but I would be so down.”
Bass actually has the experience to back his wishes up. Not only is he the first gay man to host a major network TV dating show, but in 2016, he hosted the short-lived Logo reality dating series Finding Prince Charming, a gay twist on shows like The Bachelor. Unfortunately, the show was cancelled after just one, eight-episode season.
He specifically would like to host Bachelor in Paradise, which he says is the perfect venue for a gay version of the show, mentioning Demi Burnett, a contestant who came out on the show and ended her season by proposing to her then-girlfriend Kristian Haggerty. The couple didn’t work out, and Burnett is back on Bachelor in Paradise this season.
But Bass still has hopes for queer love on the show. “I love the fact that they’re really branching out. They’re doing the seniors next, which I think is such a great idea,” Bass said about the upcoming senior citizen version of the show.
“I like that they’re trying different things and I think the next step, the obvious step, would be to be an LGBT version,” he continued. “I would love to see a show where you had lesbian, gay, trans, bi. To me, bisexual is just such an interesting thing to watch because everyone is an option.”
