The iconic host is bringing in the big names for her talk show's 19th and final season.
TelevisionEllen DegeneresTVEntertainmentlesbianMey RudeOn September 13, an era in TV is beginning to come to an end.
That’s when the first episode of the 19th and final season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, one of the most successful and popular daytime talk shows over the last two decades, airs. And DeGeneres just announced who some of the stars who will be joining her are.
DeGeneres is bringing back Jennifer Aniston, the show’s first-ever guest from back in 2003, to kick off the final season, and is bringing Jimmy Kimmel along for the ride as well. During the premiere week, Tiffany Haddish and Imagine Dragons will also appear, with Kim Kardashian West also slated to appear for the first time since ending her own long-running reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians earlier this year.
Later guests include Sean "Diddy" Combs, Melissa Etheridge, Melissa McCarthy, and Julianne Moore.
DeGeneres announced that she’d be ending her long-running show back in May after a tough year both professionally and personally. DeGeneres and the show became the subject of controversy when several staff members and employees reported a toxic work environment and bullying from the beloved host.
“As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation,” DeGeneres said about the allegations last year. “I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that every seriously and I want to say I am so sorry to the people that were affected. I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and with that comes responsibility and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”
But the apology wasn’t enough, and Ellen’s ratings dropped dramatically over the pandemic. Eventually, a combination of bad publicity, bad ratings, and the toxic work environment convinced DeGeneres to end the show.
The Ellen DeGeneres Show will have a live audience during its final season, the first the show has had since before the pandemic. Over 155,000 fans have requested tickets to say farewell to DeGeneres.
