This family is really getting a whole lot prouder!
DisneyTVEntertainmentMey RudeIt’s a family affair!!!
The Proud Family is back and Louder and Prouder in the first preview for the upcoming Disney+ reboot of the classic cartoon series.
The show really is getting Prouder, as several queer characters and voice actors are joining the show. EJ Johnson plays a new character named Michael Collins who is described as a “nonconforming trendsetter” who “serves fierce looks at school.” And it looks like we’ve got our first glance of Michael in this new teaser! And Michael, you are looking STUNNING. Also, we see that wrist! Is he...you know?
Billy Porter and Zachary Quinto are also joining as the parents of another new character played by out actress Keke Palmer. Their characters, Randall Leibovitz-Jenkins and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins, are the adoptive parents of 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins.
There are also set to be a ton of guest stars played by some of our fave queer celebs, including Lil Nas X, Lizzo, Lena Waithe, Jane Lynch, and Bretman Rock.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is a great step for Disney+, which until recently had very little kid-friendly queer content. Apart from The Owl House, which features Disney’s first bisexual protagonist, animated queer rep on the network had usually consisted of characters who appear in just one scene before disappearing. It seems like Louder and Prouder will not have that issue.
The trailer is part of Disney+ Day, where the streamer is releasing previews and announcements for a ton of upcoming projects. In the announcements, we also learned that the upcoming third season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series will have the kids performing Frozen!
Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey also made an appearance, revealing that Enchanted is now available to stream on the platform, and the sequel Disenchanted will come out next year. We also got a look at Kathy Najimy, Bette Midler, and Sarah Jessica Parker dressed up as the Sanderson Sisters from the upcoming Hocus Pocus 2.
