Could some sapphic sex be coming to the Sex and the City universe?

Fans are pointing to several scenes in a new, short trailer for the upcoming HBO Max Sex and the City reboot series, And Just Like That, saying that the teaser shows evidence that one of the main characters is going to discover some sapphic leanings.

The new trailer is not even a minute long, but fans have been pouring over every second of it to find details about the much-hyped new reboot. One of thing that fans have noticed is the interactions Cynthia Nixon’s character Miranda is having with some new cast members, and just how gay those interactions seem.

In one scene, it appears that Miranda is having a one-on-one dinner with Che Diaz, the queer and nonbinary podcaster and standup comedian played by Out100 cover star Sara Ramirez. It looks like a bar or restaurant, and if you look in the background, you can see what look like several other queer people.

Maybe Che is taking Miranda to her first gay bar? If this is the case, it would be a rare depiction of a late-in-life coming out in media, which is actually quite common in real life. There’s very little representation for older lesbians and queer and bi women, and Miranda would be a perfect choice, as she’s played by out, queer actress Cynthia Nixon.

But that’s not the only scene getting fans talking.

“Life is full of surprises,” Carrie’s narration says as a new character named Dr. Nya Wallace (played by Karen Pittman) puts her hand gently on Miranda’s arm, just like a lesbian. Fans are especially jumping all over that scene, as it comes right after showing two couples, Charlotte and Harry, and Carrie and Big. Maybe Miranda and Dr. Nya are next?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like that’s the case, as People has already announced that actor LeRoy McClain plays the character’s “musician husband Andre Rashad Wallace” in the show. Additionally, Pittman told the magazine that “there is is plenty of sex in the city happening with him.”

However, we know that Ramirez’s character will be queer and nonbinary, and the scene with their character and Miranda is keeping our gay hopes afloat.

And Just Like That premieres December 9 on HBO Max.
