Nyle DiMarco is teaming up with Revelations Entertainment and Melrose Placed to develop the new drama series Deaf Punk!
The show is set to star DiMarco and will be inspired by San Francisco’s famed music venue The Deaf Club, which helped catapult the punk scene in the 1970s.
The actor and America’s Next Top Model alum shared in a statement that he had been “holding on to this story for five years,” but even so, it is now “as timely as ever.”
DiMarco described the project as one where “two disenfranchised communities join forces to make noise and propel change.” As an LGBTQ+ and deaf activist, it’s no surprise the star has taken on another powerful project, but tthe series also proves to align perfectly with Morgan Freeman and Lori McCreary’s Revelations Entertainment.
“Our company has always prioritized stories of human connection, and when we met Nyle and Sami [Housman of Melrose Placed] and heard their passion for this series we immediately jumped at the opportunity to develop this incredible project," McCreary said.
DiMarco and Housman will work together once again, previously collaborating on Netflix’s Deaf U and the short film Audible.
“This is a story of folks who came together to lift each other up in a unique way," McCreary added. "We’re thrilled to see audiences respond to stories exploring deaf culture."
It only adds to DiMarco's in progress projects. He currently also has a show inspired by his life titled Look at Me. There's a half-hour comedy starring him that was sold to Spectrum, and a feature film adaptation of the book Deaf President Now! The 1988 Revolution at Gallaudet University.
