"Emmy Award winner Zendaya" has a beautiful ring to it, don't you think?!
TVEntertainmentRaffy ErmacIt's been a long-time coming, but after an almost three-year-long wait, the second season of HBO's critically-acclaimed teen drama Euphoria is nigh!
Taking to social media today, HBO officially announced the release date of the highly-anticipated next batch of brand new episodes, which is set to hit the network's streaming service, HBO Max, on January 9! And with it, a teaser trailer giving us the first glimpse of what to expect in season two!
"Amidst the intertwining lives in the town of East Highland, 17-year-old Rue must find hope while balancing the pressures of love, loss, and addiction," the season's official description reads!
Besides Zendaya returning to the main (and Emmy-winning!) role of Rue, the show's beloved ensemble cast, the likes of which include Hunter Schafer, Nika King, Eric Dane, Angus Cloud, Jacob Elordi, Algee Smith, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira, Maude Apatow, Javon Walton, Storm Reid, and Austin Abrams are all returning, alongside Euphoria newcomer Dominic Fike!
In a July interview with Teen Vogue, Zendaya herself spilled some tea on what she's most excited for fans to see in the future of the LGBTQ-inclusive HBO series, and based on what she said, it sounds like Euphoria's second season is pulling out all sorts of drama that will keep us in our feels.
"It's a difficult season, I'm kinda in the middle of it," she said at the time. "I had like a 2:30 a.m. wrap time last night, we're in the thick of it."
She continued:
"The show was intense. And it's very personal to, not only ourselves and all the people who work on it, but also, to other people who have been able to relate so deeply to the characters or see their experiences being reflected through Rue. So we take that very seriously. And it's definitely challenging, it's a challenging season. It's gonna be hard and it's gonna be devastating sometimes, but I think Rue really deserves all of that care when it comes to her character because I think she represents a lot for so many people. And I hope to make those people proud with our depictions of Rue [and] where all the characters go. I think this season's not going to be easy, though. It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don't think. Sometimes."
The last we saw of Rue and Jules was in those special bridge episodes we got late last year and earlier this year, where we got to see a more in-depth look at both halves of one our favorite queer couples currently on TV right now. Because of the ongoing global pandemic creating production delays for season two, creator Sam Levinson decided to bless the world with those special, one-off episodes in the interim, and while they were great, they really made us miss watching Euphoria in all of its full glory — but now, thanks to the world slowly but surely getting some semblance of normalcy, season two is now on the horizon and we won't have to wait too long for more new Euphoria content in our lives!
Season two of Euphoria premieres on January 9 on HBO Max.
