Marvel Studios' executive of production & development Trinh Tran chats with Out about the creation of the latest Disney+ Marvel series!
TVEntertainmentInterviewsRaffy ErmacWarning! Some Hawkeye spoilers ahead!
Disney+ and Marvel Studios' latest series Hawkeye is already in full swing, and with the introduction of characters like Kate Bishop (played by Dickinson alum Hailee Steinfeld) into the beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe, superhero fans have so many fierce, empowering, and badass women to look up to when they watch their favorite media.
In the most recent episode of the series, which sees OG Avenger Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) on a mission to get back to his family in time for the holidays and passing off the Hawkeye torch to Kate, we are re-introduced to another familiar face: Yelena Belova (played by Oscar-nominated Little Women and Black Widow actress Florence Pugh). On her own mission to get revenge on Clint for the death of her adoptive sister Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Yelena is just another example of the continued expansion of the MCU when it comes to female characters that we always find ourselves rooting for.
Out got the chance to speak with Trinh Tran, Marvel Studios' executive of production & development and Hawkeye's executive producer, to talk about bringing more fearless women into the MCU, getting Hailee Steinfeld to sign onto the project as Kate Bishop, that Avengers musical scene, the early days of Marvel Studios, and more!
"It was one of the reasons why I feel so strongly about bringing this character into the MCU," Tran told Out when asked about the next generation of superhero fans getting to see an empowering character like Kate Bishop go from the pages of the comics to the small screen. "Kate Bishop in the comics, what I adore about her is that she is so strong-minded, she is fearless, and she is not afraid to speak her mind. She's so confident in what she does and what she feels, and I think that is so important to bring on screen for everybody to see, especially for little girls to watch and go, 'You know what, she doesn't have superpowers, but she thinks and acts like she's a superhero. So I can do that too.' I think that's so inspiring, and that's what we love about Kate Bishop."
Hawkeye is now streaming on Disney+.
