The Schitt's Creek star and co-creator took to Instagram today to announce the death of his longtime pet dog Redmond last week.
“Last week I lost my best friend,” Levy wrote along with a picture of him holding his dog. “Heartbroken, but grateful for every minute of the last ten years that I got to spend with him. I love you my sweet boy.”
Levy first adopted Redmond in 2012 when the dachshund-corgi mix was four years old. “He had been mistreated and abandoned at an adoption fair in Los Angeles,” Levy wrote on Instagram in 2019.
“Finding him was the greatest thing that ever happened to me," he continued. "If you are looking for a pet, first make sure you’ve thought it through and that you have the means to care for them properly, THEN please please please consider adopting. There are so many animals just waiting for a better life.”
Levy was known for often posting pictures of Redmond on his Instagram, sharing little peeks into their life together. At different times, Levy called Redmond “the only one that really matters,” and his “best pal.”
Back in 2015, Levy posted a Throwback Thursday pic of the first day he had Redmond, who he often called Red.
Friends and co-stars were quick to send their love to Levy. His Schitt’s Creek co-star Emily Hampshire commented a series of heart emojis on the post, and Sarah Paulson and Pose creator Steven Canals also expressed their condolences. Our hearts go out to Levy.
