Kyan Douglas, one of the original Fab Five cast members from Bravo's beloved 2000s reality makeover series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, is officially retiring from television.
This week, Douglas announced his retirement from TV on The Rachael Ray Show. “I just feel ready to move on to something else,” he explained. “I don’t know what that is yet…But you know, things come to an end and the universe will fill a void. So it’s time to step away and see what’s next.”
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy aired between 2003 and 2007. In 2008, Douglas started making regular appearances on The Rachael Ray Show as a fashion expert. Ironically, Douglas noted that he’s done more episodes of The Rachael Ray Show over the years than he appeared on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Thus, it was fitting for him to make this announcement on Ray’s talk show.
During his televised announcement, Douglas also thanked The Rachael Ray Show for giving him enough flexibility in his job to spend the last year of his mother’s life at home with her. Ray noted that Douglas will always be a part of her family, whether or not he’s still on TV with her.
On Instagram, Douglas had already teased that he was making an announcement on The Rachael Ray Show this week. He wrote in the caption, “Hello friends! Forgive me for the last-minute post but I will be on The Rachael Ray show today with a very special announcement! Please watch when and where you can. Check your local listings. Love you guys.”
Even though Douglas has announced his retirement from TV and isn’t sure about what’s next in his career, the OG star of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy seems excited about what the future holds. If you’re a fan of Douglas and want to support him, the grooming guru is available for personalized videos on Cameo.
