Mey RudeJodie Foster is making her small screen debut as an adult.
Foster is set to star in the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s hit series True Detective as lead character Liz Danvers. The season will be released under the title True Detective: Night Country.
While we don’t know much about the character, we do have an official description of what the season will cover.
“When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the six men that operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace,” the synopsis reads. “To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves, and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”
The first season of True Detective starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and took place in Louisiana. The second season moved to California and starred Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, and Vince Vaughn. Season three took place in the Ozarks and starred Mahershala Ali.
Early in her career, Foster appeared as a child actor in many shows like The Courtship of Eddie’s Father, Mayberry RFD, Gunsmoke, and The Partridge Family. As an adult, she has provided her voice for a few projects, appearing as a caller on Frasier and voicing Maggie Simpson in an episode of The Simpsons, but she has yet to appear on screen playing a character.
Technically, season four of True Detective is still in the development stages and hasn’t been officially greenlit yet. It’s being written by Issa Lopez (Tigers Are Not Afraid), who will also direct multiple episodes including the pilot. Alan Page Arriaga (Fear the Walking Dead) is also on board as a writer. Moonlight's Barry Jenkins is executive producing alongside Lopez and Arriaga.
Seeing Foster in a big, meaty role on TV like this would be a dream, so hopefully, we’ll get confirmation that the season is greenlit any day now!
