Openly gay producer Bryan Fuller will be removing himself from the production team of CBS All Access's Star Trek: Discovery, which is set to debut in May of 2017. The producer of Hannibal and Pushing Daisies cites an overly-full schedule as the reason for stepping down.

Fuller will be too busy juggling the last weeks of shooting and post-production work for Starz's American Gods and preparing NBC's reboot of Amazing Story, Variety reports. Though the producer has already penned two episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, he will not be able to devote enough time to the series as its showrunner to make its premiere date.

Fuller will instead be turning over showrunner duties to executive producers Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts while he takes the passenger's seat as an executive producer himself. The show will continue to follow his vision, however, and he will still have a say in breaking stories.
