Out got the chance to speak with the cast of Netflix's beloved, trans-inclusive superhero series at the Season 3 premiere in Los Angeles.
The Umbrella Academy is back for more!
Featuring a positive, game-changing coming out storyline for trans main character Viktor Hargreeves (who is played by Out100 honoree and Oscar nominee Elliot Page in his first role since publicly coming out in late 2020), the third season of Netflix's beloved superhero series is bringing back all of the mayhem and antics we love about the show while also introducing viewers to the new kids on the block — the Sparrows.
Out got the chance to interview the star-studded cast at the red-carpet premiere for Season 3 in Los Angeles to talk about their excitement for a new season, what fans can expect to see, and the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion and representation.
"I think what binds you closer than blood is loyalty," David Castañeda, who plays Diego Hargreeves on the show, said when asked about the importance of having a character Viktor on the show and if he had any advice for people who want to come out after feeling inspired by Viktor's storyline. "If the people around you are loyal, you'll know because they'll accept you for who you are. So it's more about just taking the courage to express your most intimate thoughts to the people you love. And your reality starts shaping itself through that. If you express yourself with intimacy to some people and they're not there for you, then that's your answer. That's your answer that that's not the people for you."
"What I would say to someone who is ready to step into their truth is it's not as scary as you think," Britne Oldfold, who plays series newcomer Fei Hargreeves, added. "Once you're there, you will find so much support. And it's a really, really beautiful, hard thing but it's worth it."
The Umbrella Academy Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
