Natalie WhalenCBS' new legal drama series Rebel Law will follow an openly gay attorney who returns home to Mississippi to join his family's law practice.
The show, written by Eastsiders creator Kit Williamson and co-produced by Royal Pains showrunner Michael Rauch, will collaborate with Lisa Kudrow and Dan Bucatinsky’s Is Or Isn’t Entertainment, according to Deadline.
In the drama, the attorney and his family will work through their differences–political and personal–both inside and outside the courtroom.
Eastsiders, Williamson's dark web comedy, premiered on YouTube in 2012 and began streaming on Logo TV’s website in 2013. He also starred in the last two season's of AMC's Mad Men as Ed.
Rebel Law is Rauch’s third sale at CBS, along with two drama projects that he is writing and executive producing, including another legal drama produced by Jennifer Lopez and Dr. Death, a serial killer drama starring Alan Cumming.
Rebel Law isn't the only CBS drama featuring LGBT actors or storylines. Doubt will star transgender actress Laverne Cox in a historic first for broadcast TV–a series regular trans character played by a trans actress.
