Editor’s note: this post contains spoilers for season one, episode four of Baymax! on Disney+.

Baymax’s invitation to all future Pride Parades has been sent out.

Unlike the blink-and-you-miss-it LGBTQ+ moments featured in most movies and TV shows released by Disney in recent years, episode four of the Disney+ animated series Baymax! snuck in the cutest, gayest storyline we’ve seen from the studio in a while.

During the episode, Mbita (voiced by Jaboukie Young-White) runs a food truck called “Just Fish Soup” and runs into Yukio (voiced by Brian Tee) at the farmer’s market. Yukio tells Mbita that he has the “best apple sauce” in town, and Mbita gets immediately flustered while talking to him. Alas, it is not totally clear what this is all about.

After a series of events that require the gentle care (but relentless assistance) of Baymax, Mbita becomes a more courageous guy. By the end of the episode, Mbita stumbles upon Yukio again. He says, “I think it would be fun if me and you went to a place, or perhaps a thing, together.”

“Are you asking me on a date?” Yukio asks. Baymax warns Mbita that his pulse and heartbeat have quickened upon hearing Yukio’s follow-up question. He tries to shush Baymax, but resigns. “Yes,” he tells Yukio, who then replies, “Great, sounds fun.”

The episode ends with Yukio and Mbita walking off-camera as they talk about different kinds of apples. “You are in good health,” Baymax determines while watching them walk together into the distance.

Disney has been walking the tightrope of trying to include LGBTQ+ characters in its movies and TV shows – but not showcasing them properly – while dealing with the wrath of conservative audiences who have homophobic and transphobic views regarding the things they watch.

This storyline from Baymax! feels like something that is rather “buried” in a random episode of a random show, but it still felt like the cutest LGBTQ+ scene we’ve seen in a while from the House of Mouse.

Baymax! is now streaming on Disney+.
