The upcoming show will follow two men over several decades in America.
Matt BomerEntertainmentMey RudeJonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer are getting ready to play “Fellow Travelers” in a new limited series for Showtime.
The Viscount Anthony Bridgerton himself, Jonathan Bailey was announced to join the cast of Showtime’s limited series Fellow Travelers, where he will play the character of Tim Laughlin, a young Fordham University graduate who is “earnest about his political and religious convictions and filled with optimism about the post-WWII future” the movie takes place in.
The show is described as a “love story and political thriller” following the volatile romance of two extremely different men who meet under the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington.
Bailey will be playing one of the two leading men, and the other will be played by Matt Bomer (Magic Mike XXL). Bomer’s character, Hawkins Fuller, “maintains a financially rewarding, behind-the-scenes” political career while avoiding emotional entanglements. But his life changes when he meets Tim Laughlin, a “young man brimming with idealism and religious faith.”
The eight-episode limited series will follow Hawkins and Tim as they begin a romance at the same time that Joseph McCarthy declared a war on “subversives and sexual deviants” in America. The show will follow the two men over the course of four decades, crossing paths “through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s, and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.”
Fellow Travelers is based on a novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon and is being adapted by Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia). Daniel Minihan (Deadwood) will executive produce and direct the first two episodes. Allison Williams also stars.
Apart from playing gay in Fellow Travelers, Bailey will also be returning for Season 3 of Bridgerton as the hunky Viscount Anthony.
