Marvel’s Ironheart is getting even queerer!

Just a week after announcing that Drag Race all star Shea Couleé will be joining the cast of Disney+’s upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe show Ironheart, Deadline reported today that nonbinary actor Zoe Terakes (Nine Perfect Strangers, Wentworth) has also joined the cast in a key role.

While details about Terakes’ role are being kept under wraps, the 22-year-old actor is a similar age to the show’s main character, so it’s likely that they will play either a friend or a peer of main character Riri Williams. Perhaps he’ll even play her love interest?

Ironheart stars Thorne as Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor in the world since Iron Man. There are rumors that as a part of diversifying its universe, Marvel will make Riri bisexual in the show.

In addition to Thorne, Ironheart will star Anthony Ramos (In the Heights), Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, and the previously mentioned Shea Couleé. Character details are being kept under wraps, but based on some set photos, fans think Ramos is playing the villain known as The Hood.

Ironheart will be the second Marvel show with two named queer characters in it. In Loki, both Loki and his female variant are bisexual. Previous MCU movies like The Eternals featured gay superhero Phastos and his husband Ben, and Thor: Love and Thunder featured Valkyrie and Korg.

Terakes shared their excitement for the project on Instagram, saying they are “unbelievably stoked.”

“This one’s for the trans guys n girls n theys,” he wrote. “So much love.”

Ironheart will first appear in the upcoming movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which premieres on November 11, and production is currently underway on the show.
