The record-breaking contestant will be back for more rounds of Jeopardy! very soon.
Amy Schneider is finally heading back to Jeopardy! Could her return be even more iconic than expected!?
Schneider, who made history in January as the winningest woman the show has ever seen, will return to the popular game show for the Tournament of Champions, premiering October 31.
Bringing together some of Jeopardy!’s top competitors — including Matt Amodia, Mattea Roach, and Schneider, of course — the highly-anticipated tournament will take place during another major event: the U.S. midterm elections on November 8.
Always two steps ahead, Jeopardy! fans noticed that the tournament was not scheduled to air on the second Tuesday of November, but it looks like the show’s execs have something bigger in store.
On an episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, executive producer Mike Davies said:
“I don’t wanna give too much away, but we are planning something really tremendous,” adding that they “owe [Alex Trebek] a fantastic episode of Jeopardy!”
November 8 also marks the second anniversary of Trebek’s passing. The longtime Jeopardy! host starred on the show for 36 years until he lost his battle with cancer in 2020.
Co-host and producer Sarah Foss shared that the show will “certainly pay tribute” to Trebek on the Election Day special episode.
Though they didn’t explicitly share how they’ll honor him, viewers have been busy crafting theories on Reddit.
One person suggested that there could be a practice game between Amodia, Roach, and Schneider that would “break the internet.”
They wrote, “Given that Davies suggested ‘breaking the internet’ with regards to their Election Day plans, I have to suspect that he’s thinking of running an exhibition match with Matt, Amy, and Mattea between the quarter-finals and semi-finals, which could be fun!”
Another added, “I also remembered him using the phrase ‘break the internet’ in reference to a practice game between Amy, Matt, and Mattea.”
All three competitors have been guaranteed a spot in the tournament’s semi-finals as a result of their incredible streaks. With a 40-episode run and grand total of $1.4 million in winnings, Schneider is the first trans woman to qualify for the Tournament of Champions.
