Don’t give up hope on seeing Luke Evans’ Gaston once more, as according to the actor himself, the Beauty and the Beast spin-off starring him and Josh Gad isn’t quite dead in the water.

Evans was talking to Entertainment Weekly about his new role as The Coachman in the live-action Pinocchio when he also gave some good news about his planned Gaston prequel series.

"We just wanna make sure that it is absolutely the best it can be, and if that means we just have to wait a little longer to finesse certain pieces of it, then that's what we're going to do because this is a very important legacy," Evans said. "We want to honor these characters with the best story we can possibly deliver. It's just on hold. It is gonna happen. We're very excited about it. At some point in the near future, it will happen."

He also shined some light on what we can hope to see explored in the series when it does finally come out.

"There's so many things about these two characters that we don't really know, about their origin stories," he said. "Were they always these creatures or were they different? It's a bit like, no one's born bad. Things happen, you make wrong decisions, or you choose to make a decision that affects the rest of your life. I think that was where we were going with the idea and concept. So I hope one day soon we will be able to deliver that story for you guys."

Back in February, we learned that the show was put on hold "for creative reasons, with the scripts and original music not coming together in the direction expected and running behind schedule."

Josh Gad, who played Gaston’s gay sidekick LeFou in the movie, confirmed the news.

"Sadly, ‘Tis true. We tried to make it all work but under the gun it wasn’t meant to be… for now," he said on Twitter. "These characters and this story will live on, but sometimes the best intentions & reality collide & nothing can be done."

"But… we truly hope we get to make it when our schedules allow," he continued.

Now it looks like that might be happening!
