The show is also addding four new cast members.
The Heartstopper family is getting a lot bigger!
Today, Netflix just announced that four new cast members will be joining the upcoming second season of the beloved queer teen romance series.
The Heartstopper cast also released an adorable video teasing the new season, which is currently officially in production.
The video shows actors Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney, William Gao, and the rest of the cast reading their new scripts and greeting fans. You can see how happy the entire cast is to be together.
We also get to see the new cast members, who seem to fit right in with the old ones.
The new members include Leila Khan, who will play Sahar Zahid, a Higgs school student; Jack Barton, who will play David, Nick’s older brother; Bradley Riches, who will play James McEwan, a Truham school student; and Nima Taleghani as Mr. Farouk, a Truham school teacher.
Riches appeared in the first season as a student, and returns in a named role for this upcoming season. Khan is a new actor who was found after a nation-wide open casting call. This is her first professional acting role.
The open casting call for the role of Sahar read: “We are looking for a plus-size actor of British South Asian heritage who identifies as female or non-binary. Professional experience is not essential. Must be UK based. Sahar is in Year 11 at Higgs. No nonsense, independent, a little cynical at times. You must be available from autumn 2022.”
Connor, who plays Nick Nelson, recently deleted his twitter after accusations of “queerbaiting” were lobbied at the 18-year-old actor.
After expressing that he doesn’t want to label his sexuality in recent interviews, Connor was spotted holding hands with Maia Reficco, his co-star in the upcoming movie A Cuban Girl’s Guide to Tea and Tomorrow. This led some fans to accuse the actor of queerbaiting to gain popularity playing a queer role.
Connor didn’t spend much time on the accusations. After tweeting “this is a silly app. Bit bored of it now, deleting twitter,” he did just that and deleted his Twitter account.
Season one of Heartstopper is currently streaming on Netflix.
