The Emmy-winning series' second season will also feature "more than one" dead body!
Get ready for an even sexier, wilder season of The White Lotus!
According to the stars of the new season of HBO’s hit show, the second season of The White Lotus is going to bring us even more of the things we loved from season one.
The new season follows a new group of rich morally-gray characters, including a newly rich man who takes his college roommate on a couple’s vacation with his rich friends, three generations of men getting in touch with their Italian roots, and a pair of sex workers. Emmy winner Jennifer Coolidge is the only returning cast member.
Variety interviewed several of the new season’s stars, asking them what fans can expect at the White Lotus Sicily.
“I think that season two is a lot sexier, and it’s a little bit more sinister right off the bat,” Meghann Fahy, who plays housewife Daphne said. “It’s really action-packed actually – I think people are gonna be surprised.”
Simona Tabasco, who plays a sex worker named Lucía said that the new season will give viewers a new “level of stress” and that it’s “tantalizing, sexual, and funny.”
The show’s creator, Mike White, who won Emmys for his directing, writing, and producing the show, said that while a lot has changed, it’s still The White Lotus we know and love, and will begin with a corpse.
“It just felt like everything is different — the cast is different, location is different, the vibe is different — so I felt like there needs to be something that seems the same,” he told Variety. “It felt like starting in the same kind of way that we did in the first season, it’ll hook people in and show them that it’s the same show.”
That’s when Theo James, who plays manipulative finance bro Cameron chimed in.
“And there may be more than one (dead body),” he teased.
Will Sharpe, who plays Ethan, the newly rich man, praised White’s writing on the show.
“His vision for the show is that it’s morally very complex, and you as an audience might find yourself lining with one character at one point, and then — against your instincts — siding with a different character two episodes later,” he said. “I think that gray area is really fertile.”
F. Murray Abraham, who is also new this year added: “People are chaotic, they’re not all good and they’re not all bad. That’s one of the things that makes Mike’s writing so good — because we do see ourselves in these people.”
Other new cast members include Aubrey Plaza as Harper Spiller, Ethan’s college roommate who goes on vacation with him, Michael Imperioli, Adam DiMarco, Haley Lu Richardson, Tom Hollander, Sabrina Impacciatore, Meghann Fahy, Leo Wood, and Beatrice Grannò.
The new season of The White Lotus premieres on HBO Max on Sunday, October 30 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO.
