Don’t worry, Julio Torres is coming back.

Shortly after canceling his comedy series Los Espookys following its second season, HBO has greenlit a new comedy series from Julio Torres (via Variety).

The new show, titled Little Films, follows Torres as he tells a tale about losing a little golden oyster. “The people he encounters as he searches for it, and the musings he has along the way, become points of departure for introspective, often eerie comedic stories about outsiders navigating an increasingly corporate and rapidly dysfunctional New York City.”

“We here at Julio™️ are so excited to be joined by many friends in weaving these fantastical stories shot entirely on stages,” Torres said.

Back in February, Torres entered into a two-year first-look deal with HBO and HBO Max, and this is one of the projects he had announced at that time.

The other project, Lucky, follows a “trans nonbinary, dog-obsessed misfit who joins forces with fellow queers in the world of Brooklyn’s gig economy.” No work yet on if that show will be made.

Torres first became well-known as a writer for Saturday Night Live when he was hired in 2016. Over the years, he wrote many notable sketches and often collaborated with cast member Bowen Yang.

They wrote several sketches together including Emma Stone’s gay porn parody “The Actress,” and a sketch that turned Harry Styles into a messy internet bottom.

Along with Ana Fabrega and Fred Armisen, he also co-created the terrific horror/comedy show Los Espookys, which aired two seasons on HBO Max. The second season was released this year and was even better than the first. However, HBO canceled the show.

Torres is definitely one of the funniest people alive and one of our favorite comedians, writers, and actors, so you can be sure we’ll be tuning in to his new project.

Little Films will begin production in February.
