Dan LevyEntertainmentMey RudeWho wouldn’t want Dan Levy as a guardian angel?
That’s the premise of a new animated series just ordered by Hulu titled Standing By.
Standing By“will take a satirical look into the lives of a group of eternally bound, irritated guardian angels and the lessons they’ll eventually learn from not only the dysfunctional humans they’re in charge of protecting but also one another.”
Dan Levy is co-creating the new show with Ally Pankiw, who was a story editor on Schitt’s Creek and directed episodes of Shrill, Feel Good, and The Great. Danielle Uhlarik (Solar Opposites) will serve as showrunner and executive producer.
“Standing By is about the hilarity, embarrassment, and melodrama of everyday life as observed by a team of judgmental, gossip-starved guardian angels,” Levy and Pankiw said in a joint statement. “We are very excited to bring this world to life with the help of Hulu, 20th Television Animation, and Bento Box Entertainment. Not to mention an insanely brilliant cast of actors.”
That “brilliant cast” of course includes Levy, as well as David Tennant, Natalie Palamides, Glenn Close, Poppy Liu, and Samira Wiley.
Levy recently wrapped filming on his directorial debut, the movie Good Grief. The movie, which he also wrote and stars in, follows a grieving widower on a trip to Paris.
Marc Dreyfus (Levy) is spiraling when his partner passes away. “The tragedy upends Marc’s comfortable life, unearthing long-buried grief over the passing of his mother. Along with his two closest friends, Marc heads to Paris to find his feet again — but gets slightly more than he bargained for.”
The movie also stars Ruth Negga, Himesh Patel, Luke Evans, Celia Imrie, Arnaud Valois, David Bradley, and Jamael Westman.
Good Grief will debut on Netflix.
