“Can you imagine seeing your ex-boss on TMZ like this?” the comedian wrote.
The 2022-2023 New Year’s Eve wars keep going.
On Saturday, December 31, Kathy Griffin took to social media to slam Andy Cohen for an interview he gave TMZ back in 2017. For context, that was the year when CNN fired Griffin from hosting the network’s New Year’s Eve show due to the comedian’s controversy with then-president Donald Trump. CNN subsequently hired Cohen to replace her and cohost the telecast alongside Anderson Cooper.
In a video from 2017 re-shared by Griffin today on Instagram, Cohen is asked by a TMZ reporter if he had spoken to Griffin about replacing her on the NYE telecast for CNN. Throughout the interview, Cohen keeps saying “who?” when asked about Griffin and pretends not to know the comedian. Griffin wrote her reaction to the video in a newly-shared Instagram post:
“Ugh. Every year someone sends me this clip around New Year’s Eve. This guy was my boss for years. Decided whether or not I worked at Bravo. Can you imagine seeing your ex-boss on TMZ like… this? Ouch! Anyway, I can’t wait to watch Miley and Dolly tonight.”
At the end of her post, Griffin is clearly stating that she’ll be watching the Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party telecast starring Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton on NBC instead of watching Cohen and Cooper on CNN.
Earlier this week, Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve host Ryan Seacrest threw shade at Cohen for reportedly drinking too much at the 2021-2022 New Year’s Eve show from CNN. This was a delayed but direct response to Cohen saying on CNN that Seacrest’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve telecast was just “Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing behind us.”
Even though CNN is reportedly limiting the cohosts’ alcohol intake on this year’s NYE celebration, Cohen has already vowed to “party harder” during the upcoming telecast.
Seemingly out of nowhere, the 2022-2023 New Year’s Eve lineup of shows has become a free-for-all battleground between current and former hosts of mainstream NYE telecasts.
Shots fired! And no, that wasn’t the sound of fireworks.
CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live with Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen airs December 31 at 8pm ET on CNN.
