The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced today the first string of presenters for the upcoming 80th Golden Globes, which hope to see the organization bounce back from controversy that included accusations of racism, sexual abuse by a former president, and accepting bribes.
Among the presenters are several queer stars including Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Nicole Byer, and Niecy Nash-Betts. Other presenters include Ana de Armas, Ana Gasteyer, Jamie Lee Curtis, Natasha Lyonne, Quentin Tarantino, and Tracy Morgan. De Armas, Nash-Betts, and Curtis are all also nominees this year.
Several queer actors are up for awards at the ceremony, including Aubrey Plaza for her role in The White Lotus, Emma D’Arcy in House of the Dragon, Hannah Einbinder in Hacks, Niecy Nash-Betts in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Lady Gaga for her song from Top Gun: Maverick, and Jeremy Pope for The Inspection.
Additionally, there are several actors nominated for playing queer roles. Brendan Fraser is nominated for The Whale, Cate Blanchett is nominated for Tár, Daniel Craig is nominated for playing gay detective Benoit Blanc in Glass Onion, and Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis are nominated for their roles in Everything Everywhere All At Once.
This year’s Golden Globes are being hosted by queer comedian Jerrod Carmichael. It will air live coast-to-coast on January 10 from 5pm to 8pm PT on NBC while streaming on Peacock.
Five-time Golden Globe winner Ryan Murphy is set to receive the Carol Burnett Award, which honors someone “based on their body of work and the lasting impact that their television career achievements have had on both the industry and audiences.”
