The Stranger Things star publicly came out in a TikTok post and was then met with a wave of love and support.
Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp set the internet ablaze on Thursday night (January 5) when he came out via a TikTok video.
With over 9.6 million likes and 48 million views at the time of writing, friends, fellow celebrities, and fans alike all showered Schnapp with love for his announcement.
“We love you Noah!!!” wrote influencer Amelie Zilber in the comments.
“Slay,” wrote YouTuber Amanda Diaz.
Schnapp’s sister, Chloe, wrote, “u r amazing,” to which he responded, “Love you so much.”
Even the official TikTok account for the Empire State Building commented, “we love you” with a heart-wrapped emoji on the post.
The support is also met with a resurgence of claims that Millie Bobby Brown, who Schnapp considers a self-proclaimed best friend, is homophobic, a rumor that ultimately led to her deactivating her Twitter in 2018.
While some people continued to play into the rumor, others came to Brown’s defense and asked for the attention to be kept where it needs to be and to let Schnapp have his moment to shine.
Schnapp, who’s best known for playing Will Byers on Stranger Things, said he guessed he was more similar to his character, of whom he confirmed was gay in July 2022, than he thought.
“Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1,” he told Variety at the time. “It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, ‘Is it just him growing up slower than his friends?’”
The most recent season of Stranger Things saw Will Byers coming to grips with his own identity struggles, and Schnapp coming out has fans praising the additional layer this adds to the character.
