Get ready for double trouble.
The first look at Amazon Prime’s upcoming series adaptation of the classic David Cronenberg film Dead Ringers has been released, and we couldn’t be more excited.
In the new Dead Ringers, from Alice Birch, Rachel Weisz takes on the double role of two twin doctors (played by Jeremy Irons in the original film) who share everything from drugs, to lovers, to “an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes, including pushing the boundaries on medical ethics in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s healthcare to the forefront.”
“In Dead Ringers, written by Birch, The Mantle twins, played by Weisz, are the most successful, brilliant, and extraordinary people you’ve ever met,” Deadline says of the series. “Identical from head to toe, these two OB-gyn’s are on a mission to change the way women birth, starting with Manhattan. Drugs, pioneering but very much illegal medical research, sex, and falling in love, this drama based on the David Cronenberg ’80s cult classic, takes us to darker and stranger territory than we could have possibly imagined.”
Now, Prime Video has released the first look at the new series.

The classic Dead Ringers movie was already wonderfully twisted, but making it about two women who want to advance women’s medicine while also having some seriously messed-up lesbian sex makes it so much better.
Part of the main plot is the two twins switching places with each other in order to play sexual games with their unknowing partners. If that was made back in the ’80s, we can’t wait to see how far this new series pushes things.
Dead Ringers also stars Poppy Liu (Hacks), Michael Chernus (Werewolves Within), Jeremy Shamos (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom), and Britne Oldford (The Umbrella Academy).
The series debuts on Amazon Prime Video on April 21.
