Did someone say trade of the season!?
Jade Sotomayor competed in the first-ever season of RuPaul’s Drag Race alongside BeBe Zahara Benet, Nina Flowers, Ongina, and Tammie Brown. At the time, Sotomayor was a 25-year-old queen from Chicago, Illinois. Alas, after lip syncing against Rebecca Glasscock to “Would I Lie to You?” by Eurythmics, Sotomayor was asked to sashay away – placing sixth overall.
In the years that followed, the season one alum started identifying not only as Jade Sotomayor but also as David a.k.a. Trade Sotomayor, showing both their “drag” and “trade” sides as a queer performer. In case anyone has forgotten, Sotomayor is the OG trade of the season in the herstory of Drag Race, and he’s still got the body-ody-ody to prove it!
