Get ready for another Feud.
The next round of popular anthology series Feud, created by Ryan Murphy, is coming soon, and Perry Mason star Chris Chalk just revealed he will be playing famous queer author James Baldwin in the upcoming season, titled Feud: Capote’s Women.
“I’ve always wanted to play him,” Chalk said of Baldwin, who also said the set was “such a supportive environment, like mind-blowingly supportive.”
“We shot 20 pages in two days,” he added. “I got the script and was like, ‘That’s a lot of words.’ I had a little mini panic attack… but it was amazing. Then there was a five-page monologue.”
Feud: Capote’s Women is based on Laurence Leamer’s bestselling nonfiction book and has a script by Jon Robin Baitz. It follows the famous author Truman Capote’s friendship with a group of society women he dubbed his “swans.”
After befriending them and learning their secrets, Capote wrote a thinly-veiled expose for Esquire called “La Côte Basque 1965” in 1975. When it was published, Capote was banished from high society.
Feud season two also stars Tom Hollander as Truman Capote. His group of women includes Molly Ringwald as Joanne Carson, the ex-wife of Johnny Carson, Calista Flockhart as fashion icon Babe Paley, Naomi Watts as Jackie Kennedy’s sister Lee Radziwill, Chloë Sevigny as writer and fashionista C.Z. Guest, and Diane Lane as socialite Nancy “Slim” Keith.
The first season, released in 2017, followed the feud between actresses Joan Crawford and Bette Davis during and after the production of the movie What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? It starred Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon and was nominated for 18 Emmys. It was created by Ryan Murphy, who left after the first season.
