The Marvel Cinematic Universe has another gay superhero, this time played by an out actor.
Sources are reporting today that the stunt double listing for the upcoming Disney+ show Agatha: Coven of Chaos reveals that Heartstopper star Joe Locke will indeed be playing Wanda and Vision’s gay teen son Billy, also known by his superhero name Wiccan.
Wiccan is one of the most popular young, gay superheroes in Marvel, and fans have desperately been wanting him to join the MCU for a long time.
A young version of Billy, and his twin brother Tommy, were introduced in WandaVision, first as babies, then as preteens after they were magically aged up.
When Joe Locke was announced to be joining the cast of Agatha, many fans predicted he’d be playing Billy.
Just last week, legendary actress Patti LuPone, who is playing a witch named Lilia Calderu in the series, said that the Heartstopper star would be playing a witch’s familiar in the show.
“We are a coven of witches, and the witches are Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and the familiar — if anybody knows Heartstopper — is Joe Locke,” LuPone said. “And Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and myself. And I play Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch, whose power is divination, and whose trial is tarot.”
Does this mean that by some magical trick Billy has to serve as the familiar for his mother’s enemies? Is this another multiverse thing? Was LuPone confused?
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is a spinoff of the popular character played by Kathryn Hahn in WandaVision. It is currently in production.
