What's the deal?!?!
A lot of our favorite queer shows and actors got Emmy nominations this year, but still, some of our favorites were completely shut out! What’s the deal?
Of course, Succession, Ted Lasso, and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel all filled up categories with their final seasons, and The Last of Us, Abbott Elementary, and The White Lotus filled up their categories as well, so unfortunately, some shows were just left out.
These are eight of the best TV performances and shows that didn’t get Emmy love this year that definitely deserved it, and they just happen to be queer!
Dead Ringers
This show only got a cinematography nomination, despite definitely deserving Limited Series, Directing, Writing, and absolutely Lead Actress for Rachel Weisz, who perfectly brought the unstable and codependent Mantle Twins to life in one of the best performances of her amazing career.
A League of Their Own
A League of Their Own was, simply put, the best TV show of the last year and it was somehow completely shut out of the Emmys. If it didn’t get noms for writing, Outstanding Comedy, and acting for people like D'arcy Carden, Chanté Adams, Gbemisola Ikumelo, and others, it at least deserved them for costumes and hair and makeup.
Evan Rachel Wood — Weird: The Al Yankovic Story
While Weird: The Al Yankovic Story got several nominations including Outstanding TV Movie and Outstanding Lead Actor, bisexual actress Evan Rachel Wood definitely deserved a nom for playing an unhinged version of Madonna in the instant comedy classic.
Interview with the Vampire
Interview with the Vampire was one of the best and sexiest shows on TV — and it didn’t get a single nomination! Unfortunately, Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson were blocked out of the acting categories by The White Lotus and Succession.
The Other Two
The Other Two was the best comedy on TV, but it only got nominated in the writing category this year. While it definitely could’ve been nominated in the Best Comedy category, we’re sad that Drew Tarver didn’t get a nom for his great performance in the show’s final season.
Titus Burgess — Schmigadoon!
Titus Burgess was an incredible addition to the Schmigadoon! cast for season two, and we’re so upset he didn’t get a nom! The show could've gotten a dozen noms, but that’s the one we’re most upset by!
Los Espookys
Another show ended this year, and that was the brilliant Spanish-language comedy Los Espookys. Where are the noms for Julio Torres and Ana Fabrega?
P-Valley
This strip club drama shows a side of life that we don’t get to see on TV and it does it absolutely brilliantly! Nicco Annan is absolutely stunning as Uncle Clifford, and we’d love to see him get some love!
