Meet the LGBTQ+ Contestants on MTV's 'The Challenge' Season 39

‘The Challenge’ has started its search for a new champion!


MTV is kicking off a new era of The Challenge with the series’ 39th season. This upcoming cycle has been officially dubbed The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion.

During this season, MTV teases that “legends will fall” and “a new champion will rise.” There are many familiar faces in the cast of The Challenge season 39, including five-time champion CT Tamburello, Devin Walker, Tula “Big T” Fazakerley, and Olivia Kaiser.

In the meantime, fans are also already incredibly excited for the LGBTQ+ contestants who will be vying to become champions on The Challenge. This season includes both new and returning cast members from the LGBTQ+ community, including Corey Lay, Kaycee Clark, Laurel Stuckey, Tori Deal, Hughie Maughan, Jessica Brody, and Cara Maria Sorbello – the bi girlfriend of Paulie Calafiore, who just came out as bisexual on The Challenge: USA.

Kaycee Clark


Kaycee Clark

Since winning Big Brother 20 and becoming the first out lesbian winner in the series, Kaycee Clark has competed in several different seasons of The Challenge. Namely, she was a finalist on both Total Madness and Double Agents, and went on to win Spies, Lies & Allies. Clark also competed on Ride or Dies. Now, she’s back once again for season 39.

Corey Lay


Corey Lay made his reality TV debut in the first season of Max’s 12 Dates of Christmas as one of the gay men vying for love. He was then cast on The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies, and is now returning for a second chance on Battle for a New Champion.

Cara Maria Sorbello


Cara Maria Sorbello

One of the most popular The Challenge contestants ever, Cara Maria Sorbello, is returning for season 39. Her track record includes finalist and winner placements on seasons like Cutthroat, Rivals, Rivals II, Battle of the Bloodlines, Dirty 30, Vendettas, Final Reckoning, War of the Worlds, and War of the Worlds 2. Sorbello identifies as bisexual, and her boyfriend, Paulie Calafiore, recently came out as bi as well.

Hughie Maughan


Hughie Maughan

Originally known for appearing on Big Brother UK and the Irish version of Strictly Come Dancing, Hughie Maughan made his The Challenge debut on Spies, Lies & Allies. Now, he’s all set to compete again during Battle for a New Champion.

Laurel Stuckey


Laurel Stuckey is one of the biggest LGBTQ+ favorites among The Challenge fans. She was a finalist on Fresh Meat II, Cutthroat, and Rivals, and became a winner on Free Agents. Though she returned for other cycles of the series, fans are very excited to see her compete in season 39.

Tori Deal


Tori Deal

A finalist on Dirty 30, War of the Worlds 2, and Spies, Lies & Allies, Tori Deal became a champion on The Challenge: Ride or Dies. Now, the Are You the One? alum is ready to blow away the competition yet again on The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion.

Jessica Brody


Jessica Brody

Jessica Brody made her reality TV debut in season seven of The Bachelor Australia. After appearing on the dating show, she came out as bisexual and talked about having been with both men and women over the years. In 2023, Brody is competing on The Challenge: Battle for a New Champion, her first-ever season on the show.
