Doctor Who fans can't wait for the upcoming season of the long-running and beloved sci-fi series!

Helmed by Russell T. Davies, a renowned figure in queer television, the production is poised to shine a spotlight on some of the entertainment industry's most exceptional LGBTQ+ talent. One such talent is nonbinary drag star, RuPaul's Drag Race alum, and Queen of All Queens Jinkx Monsoon, who is making their presence felt as a flamboyant antagonist!

In season 14, Monsoon assumes the role of a character described as "the Doctor's most powerful enemy yet," a delightfully campy villain with an outfit adorned with piano keys. The reveal of Monsoon's character design sent the queer Doctor Who fanbase into a frenzy, building excitement for the show's return.

Monsoon's involvement in the series is a significant moment in queer representation in sci-fi, a genre traditionally underrepresented in terms of LGBTQ+ characters. Monsoon expressed their joy at "taking up space" and contributing to this positive shift in the media landscape.

To celebrate the queen’s 36th birthday on September 18, the official Doctor Who social media pages shared a new look at the character along with birthday wishes.

In addition to Monsoon, the upcoming Doctor Who season also boasts an impressive lineup of other LGBTQ+ stars, including Yasmin Finney (Heartstopper) playing Rose Noble, the daughter of Donna Noble (Catherine Tate), a beloved former companion of the Doctor. David Tennant will reprise his role as the Doctor for the anniversary specials, with Ncuti Gatwa from Sex Education taking over the iconic role in the new year. Transgender actors Pete MacHale and Mary Malone are also set to make their mark in the Whoniverse. Gay actors Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff also make an appearance, as does legendary lesbian actress Miriam Margoyles.

Doctor Who is set to return in November on BBC One and the BBC iPlayer.
