We’ll have to wait for Rue and Jules to return to our screens even longer!

On Thursday, November 2, HBO boss Casey Bloys announced that season three of Euphoria has been postponed to 2025. Given the three-year gap between season one (2019) and season two (2022), we are once again waiting three years for a new season of the series.

Delaying the third season of Euphoria comes on the heels of one of its main stars, Angus Cloud, passing away in June 2023. The series’ showrunner, Sam Levinson, also had a pretty headline-making flop this year with his new show The Idol starring The Weeknd.

Last but certainly not least, the lack of cooperation from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) during this still-ongoing Screen Actors Guild (SGA) strike of 2023 has also likely contributed to postponing the upcoming cycle of Euphoria.

The very little information we have about season three of Euphoria is that Rue will be exploring “what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world,” according to Levinson. With this new delay and the loss of Cloud as a cast member, one needs to wonder if the series will also include a time jump to explain the aging of the actors and the absence of Fez.

The Euphoria postponement was announced along with other HBO shows that have also been delayed to 2025, such as The White Lotus season three, The Last of Us season two, and the It prequel series titled Welcome to Derry.

The only main HBO series that has been confirmed to premiere in the summer of 2024 is House of the Dragon, which will be coming back for a second season. A new Game of Thrones spinoff, titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, was also announced by Bloys.

I guess we’ll just have to keep rewatching the first two seasons of Euphoria while we wait for 2025!
