In shocking news, Marvel Studios has fired Beau DeMayo, the out gay man who created the upcoming Disney+ show X-Men ‘97, which is set to premiere next Wednesday.

DeMayo’s Instagram has been deleted, and Marvel has given no reason for the firing. DeMayo was expected to attend the show’s Hollywood premiere, taking place on March 13, however, he will no longer be a part of press or publicity for the show.

DeMayo was a prolific poster on social media, and regularly gave updates on the show on his Instagram. Neither he nor his representatives have commented on the firing.

DeMayo had previously written for another Marvel show, Moon Knight, and worked on early drafts of the upcoming movie Blade. He had already written two seasons of X-Men ‘97 and was said to be working on a third.

X-Men ‘97 is an animated series that serves as a continuation of the classic 90’s X-Men: The Animated Series, which ran from 1992-1997. It features Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, Morph, Rogue, Gambit, and other classic X-Men characters.

X-Men ‘97 is premiering on Disney+ on March 20.
