All Stars queens in D.C.!
The super-queens of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 9 have taken over the United States capital — and it's all for a great cause!
On Monday, May 6, the cast of All Stars 9 landed in Washington, D.C. and visited locations like the White House and the Lincoln Memorial, and even participated in interviews with D.C. media outlets. The full cast — Angeria Paris VanMicheals, Gottmik, Jorgeous, Nina West, Plastique Tiara, Roxxxy Andrews, Shannel, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo — was present for this herstory-making moment.
Paying homage to RuPaul's red, white, and blue outfit for her performance at the 1993 Gay and Lesbian March on Washington, D.C., the All Stars 9 queens dressed in their patriotic looks to pose for a few photo shoots, attend an official panel promoting the new season, and have a kiki with none other than White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre — the first Black woman and LGBTQ+ person to hold this position.
Christopher Wiggins of The Advocate — Out's sister publication — was present at the event and spoke to three queens in the All Stars 9 cast.
"When we're here in the nation's capital, when such conversations are happening within this country about drag bans and book bans and drag story hours, and kind of how people see us on the other side of the aisle, it's empowering, and it's impactful," Nina West told The Advocate.
Angeria Paris VanMicheals added, "If it starts with us, it'll trickle into everything else, and then honestly, we could just be a better country."
