Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot has been hailed as a heartwarming facet of television highlighting contemporary gay men as they preach messages of self-love and acceptance. After a wildly popular inaugural season a second soon followed with Emmy nominations hot on its tail.

But one of the fab five members from the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (2003-2007), from which the Netflix series draws its inspiration, took a slight dig at the revamp. “I’m thrilled that they’re nominated,” Carson Kressley told Variety, referring to the fab five, “but it was a little more groundbreaking back when we won an Emmy in 2004.”

Was that a true jab at the new show and its cast? Or was it just another skirmish in the greater Battle of the Gays? “We’re so lucky to work in TV,” said Kressley, who currently holds a seat at the judges’ table on RuPaul’s Drag Race. “It’s really having a renaissance right now and so inclusive and diverse.”
