A season full of twists, gags, and stunts ended with the ultimate stunt when RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars season 4 crowned two winners, Trinity the Tuck and Monet X Change. This is the first time in history on either Drag Race or All Stars that the show chose two winners.
Throughout the episode, judges were extremely complimentary toward both contestants. On the runway, judges spoke about Monet’s growth since her season ten run while they were effusive about season nine contestant Trinity’s professionalism and polish. The two now join previous winners Chad Michaels, Alaska Thunderfuck, and Trixie Mattel in the Hall of Fame.
Monet’s improvement since her original season was a running theme throughout the episode. As she took a seat with Michelle Visage and RuPaul to record for their “What’s the Tea?” podcast, Monet commented that she didn’t have an opportunity to have the one-on-one time with the judges because she didn’t make it to season 10’s top four. “I left with my tail between my legs,” Monet said of her first time on the show. She went on, admitting she was upset that, though she began to do well in challenges toward the end of her season, her runway often held her back.
During her time on the podcast, Trinity focused on her evolution from a guarded pageant girl to someone who was willing to show vulnerability as well as her desire to leave a lasting impression. “I wanted to surprise you every single time you saw me,” she said.
“And you did,” RuPaul replied,
The final challenge saw all the queens record verses for RuPaul’s song “Super Queen,” which has served as theme music for the season. After the judges determined that Monet and Trinity were the song’s best verses, they eliminated Monique Heart and Naomi Smalls. Following the two queens’ elimination, Monet and Trinity faced off in a "Lip Sync for Your Legacy" to Christina Aguilera’s “Fighter.”
Fans of the show criticized the All Stars installments for crowning three white-presenting queens in the past, which is now no longer the case, even though Monet has to share her crown with Trinity the Tuck. Whether or not you’re ready for it, more Drag Race is coming: the show’s 11th season premieres Thursday, February 28 with Miley Cyrus as the first guest judge.
