DiMarco says, it’s “exhilarating playing a role that is not ‘one dimensional’ aka being limited to the perception of Deaf people.”
Michelle GarciaActor and model Nyle DiMarco is heading over to Shondaland for at least one episode on the producer’s ABC drama series Station 19.
The Grey’s Anatomy spinoff is about a group of firefighters in Seattle. According to Entertainment Weekly, DiMarco will play “Dylan, a brave, talented firefighter who also happens to be deaf.” According to the show, DiMarco’s character becomes “‘very hard to forget’ for one of the Station 19 team” during his story arc.
DiMarco said on Twitter Wednesday that it's "exhilarating playing a role that is not ‘one dimensional’ aka being limited to the perception of Deaf people. Deaf people can be so much more and we ARE so much more."
DiMarco first gained notoriety as the second male winner of America’s Next Top Model and later also won a season of Dancing With the Stars. “It felt really good to see that they recognized me and my work,” he told Out in 2016 after his win. “I think [my dance partner] Peta and I truly broke the relationship between music and dancing. We were killing every step, and that was mind-blowing for the hearing people.” He’s also been a guest star on Switched at Birth and Difficult People. In 2015, he said on Twitter that he is sexually fluid.
In the same finale, DiMarco will be joined by Patrick Duffy, who plays a “hard-working, salt of the earth type of guy who is scared of very little in life,” according to TV Insider.
Station 19’s second season finale airs May 16.
