Suddenly team Aristemo.
Harron WalkerJuntos el Corazón Nunca se Equivoca made Mexican television history, Reuters reports, becoming the first telenovela in the country to feature a gay couple as its leading characters.
The series, which premiered Sunday night on Mexican TV network Televisa, stars 16-year-olds Emilio Osorio and Joaquín Bondoni as Aristóteles “Aris” Córcega and Cuauhtémoc "Temo" López, respectively. The couple — whom fans have dubbed “Aristemo” — previously appeared on Televisa’s Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia, which Reuters calls one of “the most watched shows in Mexico” netting almost four million viewers with its series finale.
The new show — which, in English, translates to “Together the Heart is Never Wrong” — follows Aris and Temo as they move to Mexico City to go to university and continue to be as dramatic as all the fan-made YouTube videos I binged before writing this article have led me to believe they are. Here’s a pretty good summary of their story together thus far, set to some piano backing that’s as appropriately extra and romantic as the goddamn teenage heart!!
No word yet on whether Juntos el Corazón Nunca se Equivoca will bring Aristemo stateside any time soon, but that doesn’t mean there’s no way for you to watch the show. The internet, for example, can do many things — many things that I can’t explicitly state and/or endorse here as a representative for Out magazine dot com!
On a completely unrelated note, I used to belong to Degrassi: The Next Generation LiveJournal groups when I was in high school so that I could download WMVs of the new episodes right after they aired in Canada. What can I say? I wanted to know if Marco and Dylan were going to kiss or not! Anyway, I wonder if there are places like that online — fan communities, perhaps? — where you could watch new episodes of international shows that don’t air in the U.S. that feature gay storylines. Just an unrelated thought!
