The actor won for 'A Very English Scandal.'
Awards ShowTre'vell AndersonActor Ben Whishaw can’t be stopped. The A Very English Scandal won yet another award for his role in the BBC mini series. He took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a limited series or movie on Sunday.
“Thank you very much,” he said from the stage before revealing that he was hungover. “My agent took me out for drinks and I’m hungover.”
Whishaw played Norman Scott in the based-on-real-life show. Scott, or Norman Josiffe as he was also known, was a former stable hand and model at the center of a major 1970s British political scandal. The drama involved Scott alleging that he and Jeremy Thorpe, the leader of the Liberal Party and a member of Parliament, had an affair. He also said Thorpe conspired to attempt to kill him. The controversy ruined Thorpe’s political career.
Whishaw also took home the Golden Globe for this role earlier this year. He dedicated the award that night to Scott, “a true queer hero and icon.”
“There’s one person I really, really want to dedicate this award to and it’s the man I had the privilege to portray in this show, Norman Scott, who took on the establishment with courage and defiance that I find completely inspiring.”
Sunday night, Whishaw thanked others from the cast and crew of the show.
“I want to thank Steven Frears, for being a wonderful director,” he continued Sunday night. “I want to thank the magnificent actors in the cast, but especially Hugh Grant.”
Before exiting the stage, Whishaw also thanked his partner Mark, “for his love and his support and for keeping [him] somewhat sane.”
